4 Months

I am four months old!

Miss August in December

Mary Ella,
You are one third of one year old! It's hard to believe you have been with us that long! We love you more everyday, and we are so thankful for you that it brings tears to my eyes. The other day your daddy said that no matter how he feels you can always make him feel better. Here's what you've been up to:
  • You weigh 10 lbs. 5 oz. and are 24 1/4 in. long. You are in the 40th percentile for height and the 7th percentile for weight. You are a little girl! But now that we know you weren't getting enough milk, we are supplementing with formula. You just weren't fussy enough to tell us that! We hope to fatten you up soon.
  • You still wear newborn diapers and 0-3 month clothes.
  • You still have blue eyes, but we think your hair may be lightening up.
  • You smile all the time, but laughs are harder to come by.
  • I would say you only cry when you are tired or hungry, but lately you have turned it on when you don't want to be put down. I have noticed a new bloody murder scream, that stops instantly when I pick you up. What does that mean?
  • You love to be sitting up so you can see what's going on.
  • You love to eat your hands, grab your feet, and even taste your toes.
  • You make all sorts of sounds and are starting to "hum" and "sing."
  • You entertain yourself in your bouncy seat for up to an hour (which gives me time to take a bath and get ready, make-up and all, while you happily watch).
  • You are starting to lift your hands above your head to reach for things while you are sitting up.
  • You can hold onto just about anything you get your hands on.
  • You grab ahold of my hair and pull my face down to yours.
  • You can hold your head up at 90 degrees on your tummy. I expect you to roll over any day now.
  • You love when I blow on your belly and kiss your ears.
  • You still love your bath.
  • You still sleep in the basinette at the foot of our bed, but we are considering moving you to your crib.
  • We haven't had a bad night since you've been home. We just swaddle you up and put you to bed (don't know how much longer we can do that). Naps are not so easy. Getting you to sleep is no problem, but putting you down is another story. Sometimes it works, and sometimes you refuse to nap unless I'm holding you. Sleeping on mommy or daddy's chest is your favorite place.
  • Thank you for sleeping through the night!
    Happy 4th month, baby girl!
