Sugar Bowl

Right before we went in

On Monday when Brad got off work we headed down to New Orleans for the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Last week was a mess, so we were really glad to get away together and have some fun. A little update: We came back home to Little Rock the day after Christmas. That Monday I took my tree down and tried to get things in order for the movers to come Tuesday. I wasn't ready, so I'm really glad Cole and Jenn came to help. Tuesday morning I got everything separated that I didn't want in storage, and by the end of the day the movers had almost packed our whole house. It's crazy how fast they work! As I looked around at Mary Ella playing with Jenn among all the boxes I thought, "We've got to get out of here!" There were still 2 days left of this, and I didn't think I could take it. It would have been zero fun for ME, and I knew it would be really depressing for me too. Seeing your home emptied and leaving it empty and echoing always is. So I decided to follow Cole and Jenn to Hope and stay the rest of the week at my mom's. We couldn't move in our apartment until Saturday, so we had planned on staying a couple nights there anyway. I felt bad leaving Brad there to deal with the rest, but I wouldn't have been much help to him with ME. So, with the Pathfinder and Cole's truck packed, we headed south (Thanks Jenn for babysitting and Cole for helping Brad load). It was a fun few days down there...we watched a lot of home videos, hung out, and visited with Nanny and Pa. Brad came Thursday, and on Saturday we made the trip to Mississippi. By Saturday night we were unpacked and settled into our apartment, and by Sunday we were back at church worshipping with the Madison church of Christ. It almost felt like we were never away. So glad Mama came back with us, so she could stay with ME while we went to New Orleans... Now back to the Sugar Bowl!
Friday night we met up with Kayla, one of my old friends from Maud, and her boyfriend. We had a yummy dinner at Cochon's. When you're in New Orleans you have to branch out, so we had boudin, alligator, rabbit, pork, fish, and beef. Quite an experience!

After dinner we walked down Bourbon Street to see the spectacle. It was crazy with all the Hog fans (with a few Ohio State fans thrown in)! I tell you, Hog Nation was represented well! I would say we outnumbered them 90-10 on the town, and maybe 70-30 at the game. It was awesome!

Tuesday morning we had a fancy breakfast at Brennan's

They are famous for their bananas foster. This guy enjoyed his job and sang, "You're gonna miss my bananas" as he flambayed. We called the Hogs and sang The Fight Song during breakfast. Notice the Ohio State fans above...they did not sing or cheer for their team. After we ate we walked around The French Quarter, found the guy that had our tickets, bought some memorabilia, went to the mall, took a nap, and ate again before heading to the pep rally before the game.

Calling the Hogs at Cafe Du Monde

They called this "Fan Fest," but I don't know where the Ohio State fans were. We basically had a Hog pep rally and party at Champions Square outside the stadium. It was SO much fun!

We met back up with Kayla and Neelie before the game. Would you believe I ran into 2 more Maudites in New Orleans?

We became best friends in the 1st grade!

We're in!

Warming up...love me some DJ #45!

Big "A"

Here come the Buckeyes!

And the Razorbacks!

We had a great time even if we didn't win. It was disappointing, but not devastating. The second half was so exciting, and I was so proud of the comeback! The crowd was amazing...I was so proud to be a Hog fan! And proud to have made it to a BCS bowl! And I have to say I don't mind that their win was somewhat tarnished by the "tatoo 5." I think we have alot of good things to come. We got up Wednesday morning and made it to Manchac in time for lunch at Middendorf's...best fried catfish ever! Wednesday afternoon we were back to business, meeting with the realtor to look at houses. Wish us luck!
